South Norwalk Electric and Water, a water and electric utility owned and operated by the Second Taxing District, Norwalk, Connecticut, is currently accepting applications for the following position:

Maintenance Supervisor

This position is responsible planned and emergency construction of water mains, water services, hydrants, and other water distribution system appurtenances. Additionally, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for water distribution system maintenance including various types of valves, water main flushing, water storage tanks, and pump stations. The supervisor will also assist with maintenance and capital improvements at SNEW’s 10 MGD water filtration plant.

The Maintenance Supervisor will also: train staff in all phases of related maintenance and construction; diagnose water system problems and proposes solutions; supervise all safety procedures including those related to the use of hand and power tools, entry into confined spaces, excavation, traffic safety, lockout/tag out protection and handling mechanical and electrical energies; oversee work activities including planned and reactive maintenance; manage continuous forecasts of resources and projects; schedule and assign work/goals for direct reports including recommendations for recruiting, salary increases, training, and promotions; work with the Water Operations Manager to develop and maintain department budgets for facilities, equipment, supplies and human resources; and maintain logs of inspections performed; prepare periodic and special reports as required; estimate progress payments due on contracts. Maintain and update utility records as required.

SNEW prefers the candidate to have a minimum of 5 years’ of related experience in water system maintenance and construction experience including 10 years underground utility experience or equivalent. Experience in plumbing, pipe fitting, underground utility installation, building maintenance, rotating equipment maintenance, diesel and gas engine maintenance, vehicle and construction equipment maintenance and water metering systems. Must have a current CDL driver’s license and live within 30 min commute to the 164 Water Street office or Wilton Filtration plant.

This hourly position is required to work on-call, over-time, and emergencies as needed. SNEW offers a competitive salary and great benefits including participation in the CMERS pension program.
